Telehealth is a Protected Insurance Benefit Under Texas Law
In Texas, live telehealth video counseling and psychotherapy are covered by insurance under a state law designed to make mental health care more accessible and convenient.
The law, outlined in Chapter 1455 of the Texas Insurance Code, ensures that telehealth services are treated the same as in-person sessions when it comes to insurance coverage. This means if your health insurance covers in-person counseling, it must also cover sessions provided through telehealth.

Health insurance companies are not allowed to deny coverage just because your session is conducted online instead of face-to-face. They must also allow providers to use the telehealth platform that works best for their practice. This flexibility helps ensure you can continue your care without unnecessary disruptions.
When it comes to costs, like copays, deductibles, or coinsurance, you should expect to pay the same amount for telehealth as you would for an in-person session.

Wi-Fi Is My Friend, Not My Frenemy
A stable internet connection keeps our session from turning into a stop-motion movie. Let’s make sure your Wi-Fi is ready for the job—no one enjoys buffering therapy! If something does happen and the tech monsters misbehave then you can try to leave the meeting and use the original link to re-enter the session. If that does not work your therapist can send a new link. If that does not work we can reschedule your appointment to another time without any fuss to ensure you get the full time for your session.​​​​​​​​​

Don’t Keep Us Hanging
Running late? We get it, life happens. But give us a heads-up if you're not going to make it on time. Feel welcome to text, email, or call if you might be running a little behind. If you are more than 10 minutes late we will need to reschedule. There’s no judgment. We have all been there. Also, sometimes we run late too. We make every effort to be punctual. We will text you if we are running a bit behind. If you haven’t heard from us within 5 minutes of the start time then let us know. This helps us know if your email got lost in the ‘google universe’ and needs to send another link.​​​​​​​​​​

Keep Sessions Private, No Public Places
We fully support cozy vibes, but maybe not in Starbucks. Find a private spot where you can be comfy without coffee shop background noise. To maintain confidentiality sessions should be in a private location. If your therapist is concerned about privacy in a session they may request you to reschedule to protect your confidentiality.​​​​​​​​​​

Stay Grounded
No walking tours, please! Let’s keep our feet (and our video feed) stationary for the session. Moving around is great for life, but not for therapy. Getting your therapist dizzy with pacing can be a little daunting. It can also cause problems with internet connectivity. Stay put and stay focused on your session. It helps keep your session distraction free.​​​​

No Sessions On-The-Go, Safety First
No driving and diving deep into therapy at the same time. Let’s focus on one thing at a time—and I’m hoping that thing is therapy, not traffic! For your safety we cannot conduct a session while a client is driving or operating heavy machinery. If you are driving in session then your therapist will end the session and your appointment will need to be rescheduled. This also helps us maintain the integrity of a session because therapy on-the-go usually means internet connectivity problems. It just makes sense to keep you and others on the road safe, your session focused, and your internet consistent and stable for your sessions.​​​​​​

Counseling & Multitasking Don’t Mix
This isn’t just another to-do list item! Give your session the space it deserves—mentally and physically. No multitasking or squeezing us between other meetings. Make sure that you are not trying to attend to texts, emails, other meetings, gaming, school, or work tasks, while in session. Therapy progress is as good as the focus, engagement, and attention you put into each session. Partial attention gives you partial results at best. We want to set you up for success.​​​​​​​

Cancel the Noise, Eliminate Distractions
Got noisy roommates, kids, or construction next door? Pop in those noise-canceling headphones, so we can hear each other and not the latest kitchen disaster. Earbuds and headphones help to maintain privacy and confidentiality as it prevents nosy people from listening to your personal business.​​​​

No Visitors, Co-Pilots, or Stowaways- Keep Sessions Private
Our conversation is between us, so let’s keep it that way. No friends, family, or eavesdroppers lurking nearby—this is your moment. Though we may share what we are going through with friends, family, and other members of our support system, your session is yours alone, and should not include visitors or stowaways.​​​​

Bathroom Breaks Are Personal
If nature calls, we’ll pause, no need to take me with you. That’s one thing we don’t need to process together! As therapists we are close with our clients and develop a positive rapport but bathroom buddies is a bit much. If you need to take a moment we are happy to respect privacy while you attend to your needs.​​​​

Be Kind to the Clock & Respectful to Schedules
Your time is precious, and so is ours. Respecting session start and end times means everyone gets the care they need—no rushing, no overlaps. Most sessions are 45 minutes in duration. EMDR sessions are 90 minutes in duration. If you are running over time then we can schedule another appointment in the same week. We cannot extend sessions as we have clients scheduled and have their time reserved. We do not want to cut you short if you need more time. We also have to respect and honor everyone’s time and hold space for all clients. If you need more time then we will take a brief pause on our discussion and pick it up for another session as soon as possible.​​​
